My pet hamster needs company when I am not around to play with her. She gets  lonely. Will you keep her busy, play with her and feed her? Just click and food drops for her to eat. She is fun to play with, and even stretches way up high to get some food. Try it and see. She is pretty good at it.

This is the season to be thinking about people who need our help.

As you are out there buying gifts for your children this Christmas and spoiling them (up to the point that they are not even grateful for what they have, let alone what they will get), think about those who do not have anything for Christmas this year.  Perhaps you can find it in your heart to do something for them as well and spend a little less on your children this year.

For example, one  year my grandchildren each picked out a gift of theirs from under the tree, not knowing what it was, and gave it to a needy family in the church.  The kids said they never missed the gift and it felt really good to give their gifts to someone who didn’t have gifts.

Another family I know did something like what my grandchildren did as well, and they said it made them feel good being able to do something for someone instead of spending money on themselves.

It is refreshing to know that people are doing deeds of kindness like these. When they give up their own rewards for someone else to receive something, they report having good experiences. Doing something for someone else gives us feelings that we do not receive from any other means. My brother Terrance calls this feeding the “Love Bank”.

The “Love Bank” is a place inside of use that is filled when we do a kind deed for someone or someone does a kind deed for us. This is not the same thing as “Pay It Forward” (from the movie by the same name) because this is not an obligation to do something for someone else. When a deed is done for someone or by someone, both the giver and the receiver receive a benefit or in other words, a deposit, into their love account.

At some point in our lives, such as when our spirits are low or we feel alone and unloved, we can draw from our “Love Account” and feel better. In contrast, if we do not have kind deeds done to us or by us, there is nothing there to draw from when we need it. There is nothing more sad than to leave this world empty and alone.

One of the reasons I joined social networks is to get out of myself and start interacting with people.  Getting to know them and giving love and support to them made me softer and kinder. I feel better about myself and my life. Tell us your stories and experiences.  We would love to hear of them.

Let Your Spirit Soar

Being free to explore our own potential and improve our financial situations with alternative methods is important to those who follow a different beat of the drum.

Have you read the book, “Johnathan Livingston Seagull”?  It’s an old book with a great story about being different than the other birds in the flock.  Johathan Livingston Seagull’s strong need to fly faster and soar higher in the sky than the other birds gets him into a lot of trouble.

The other birds in the flock laugh at Johnathan, saying that the only reason for flying is to collect food and then take it back to the flock. However, Jonathan wants more out of flying than that; he wants to fly faster and soar higher than any other bird. Jonathan thrives on the feeling of soaring and he is unwilling to give it up. Unfortunately, he pays a price for being different and wanting more from flight than the other birds.

Throughout this story, we actually feel Jonathan’s feelings about soaring. The author does a great job of capturing those feelings that many of us identify with when we soar in our own lives. We want something more out of life than going through each day working to make a living like everyone else does. Of course, we all know that we must have a job in order to function in society, meaning we live in a world that says we can only fly to gather food and bring it home. Somehow, some of use figure out how to soar any way.

Learning to soar usually involves a lot of crashing, but we keep getting up and trying again. We want to soar as much as Jonathan Livingston Seagull wants to soar. Once the spirt learns to soar and go where few others dare to go, it’s difficult to go back to doing what every one else does.

The author arouses our own desire to soar like Jonathan Livingston Seagull. As we read the story, we identify with how it feels to let our spirits soar and go where few others dare to go. The book is about daring to be different than the others in the flock and being willing to crash as often as it takes to succeed.

It is true that no feeling can match that of a soaring spirit and pursuing dreams. However, without developing character and integrety along the way to success, it will feel meaningless if our souls are empty of friendships and people who care about us. I learned these things from an organization called International Leadership Develpment Global (ILD Global). I want you learn to succeed in life and business as well, by developing internal values and character. In this way, you will develop lasting friendships that give meaning and purpose to your life.
